A Walk Through Mehrauli Archaeological Park

The Story of a city whose rise begins with the coming of Anangpal Tomar in mid 11th c and zenith is reached in the age of Slaves Sultans and Khiljis. Mehrauli even when not the capital remains paramount in minds of Lodhis and Mughals with the British using it as a summer retreat from the dusty Shahjahanabad. In those turbulent centuries it witnessed rise and fall of families, immense architectural patronage and even pure unmitigated disasters like Timur's invasion. Inspite of extensive damage and apathy, the city still boasts of an uninterrupted built legacy of nearly a 1000 years along with valuable Sufi presence beginning with Khwaja Qutub ud din Bakhtiyar Kaki. Infact the story of Delhi can very well be the story of Mehrauli and it is this tale that we will discuss. The monuments of Mehrauli Archaeological Park with their diverse histories are the perfect setting to tell this story.
