A Walk Through Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah

The Story of the man who comes to Delhi at a young age, settles at a place far from the capital city and yet ends up changing the destiny of the whole region. Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya makes a minor village called Ghiyaspur his home in 13th century and by his sheer piety and force of character makes it a magnet for people far and wide to come and take his blessings. The man lived through 3 different dynasties of Delhi Sultanate and could count Sultans, royals, poets, writers, rich and poor as his ardent followers. The strength of his fame, at times rivalled and even exceeded that of the Sultan. Once he passed away, his dargah came up in the same village and the area became the epicentre of burials with people desperate to be buried near him so that their chance of a good afterlife increase. Kings like Humayan and Muhammad Shah, Royals like Jahanara and Mirza Jahangir, Poets like Amir Khusro are all buried in close proximity to him The village of Ghiyaspur is called Nizamuddin Basti today and it is here that we will have our walk.
