The story of Sher Shah Sur - the Afghan whose legacy reverberates even today 500 years after his death. In his short reign of 5 years, he left us with long lasting contributions in architecture, coinage, administration, infrastructure and military. His architecture (mosques, tombs, forts, serais etc) can be found across geographies and the cities he built still bear his memory. Like others before him, Sher Shah also built a capital in Delhi, remnants of which stand today in form of Purana Qila, Khooni Darwaza and Lal Darwaza. In fact, Purana Qila of today is amalgamation of two capital cities - that of Humayun ( Dinpanah) and Sher Shah ( Sher Garh) . To add to that an ancient oral tradition connects it to Pandavas and Mahabharat We will discuss the story of Sher Shah and Humayun as well as Purana Qila in this walk.
